MiMi, an appealing vocalist, is the latest birth into this charismatic community of artists.
Breathing life into her dreams this young woman is making her mark with Freedomology, a compilation of her written word put to music, accompanied by her vocal melodic flow.
MiMi has the ability to see the world in all its realities by bringing forth her inspiration to write and vocally express her internal soul’s need to connect with her listeners. Whether it is personal or not, every word that she magically and melodically professes brings awareness we can all relate to.
To describe MiM’s talent is to compare her with her legendary and current inspirations. Such as, the soulful sounds of Sarah Vaughan, Phyllis Hyman, Donnie Hathaway & Luther Vandros or the musical styles of Carl Thomas, Anthony Hamilton, Lalah Hathaway & Faith Evans. One senses she is not an individual of trend but of originality.
MiMi is the creation of two parents from St. Vincent, born in Luton-Bedforshire, England, and raised between the cities of Brooklyn, New York and Houston, Texas. Her soul speaks of her rich culture. Majoring in Music and Video Business she realized what she already knew in her heart… that music is her life and the air she breathes. Mimi began singing in church and throughout her years in school, where she obtained vocal training, music theory and opened her mind to dabbling in instruments such as piano and acoustic guitar. Writing from the tender age of 10 she began professing her poetry through her vocals. She ventured out singing and writing hooks and background vocals for local rap artists, and other vocalists in Houston, Texas.
The socioeconomic status of the diverse cultures surrounding her inspires her stimulating, thought provoking lyrics. Mimi’s lyrics tell stories of issues we all endure. Expressing the way we feel and having the heart to sing about it. Most importantly, allowing “You” to feel good about you. Phrases turn, emotions connect and melodies soar. You sing along even though you've never heard the song before. Her sound is warm and hypnotizing, with a hint of Jazz and a splash of Soul. She realizes that through music you can make a difference in the world one person at a time. She has tapped into the reality that music is universal. Believing all voices should be expressively transformed and heard. From her nurturing lips to our ravenous ears, her motto being, “Reach one, teach one, save many”.
